Hótel Jökulsarlón Glacier Lagoon Hotel – General Terms and Conditions

  1. Operation Hours

 

  • Check-in: From 16:00
  • Check-out: By 11:00
  • The front desk is open 24 hours.
  • Hot tubs and sauna 07:00 – 22:00

 

 

  1. Check-in Requirements

 

  • All guests must present a valid government-issued photo ID and a credit card at check-in.
  • Guests must be 18 years or older to check in. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
  • Reservations must be paid in advance through a secure payment link provided by the hotel.

 

 

  1. Payment Policy

 

  • Non-Refundable Reservations: Full payment is required at the time of booking and is non-refundable.
  • Standard Rate Reservations:
    • Full payment is charged five (5) days before arrival.
    • Once within 5 days of arrival, the reservation becomes non-refundable.
    • The card provided at booking may be charged anytime within this 5-day window.
  • Third-Party Bookings: Will be charged by the respective third party at the time of booking.

 

 

  1. Cancellation Policy

 

  • Non-Refundable Reservations: Can be canceled anytime, but no refunds will be given.
  • Standard Rate Reservations:
    • Free cancellation up to five (5) days before arrival.
    • Cancellations within five days of arrival will be fully charged.
  • Cancellations must be submitted via email to: reception[at]glhotel.is
  • No-Show Policy
    • In the event of a no-show, the full amount of the reservation will be charged.
    • For multi-night reservations, failure to check in on the first night will result in the entire reservation being marked as a no-show.
    • If your arrival is delayed, you must inform the reception by email in advance.
    • Without prior notice, the room will be released back into general inventory.
    • No refunds will be issued for no-shows.

 

 

  1. Pet Policy

 

  • Pets and service animals are not allowed on the property under any circumstances.

 

 

  1. Right to Refuse Service

 

The hotel reserves the right to refuse service or accommodation—without refund—if a guest:

 

  • Causes disturbance to staff or other guests.
  • Is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Exhibits abusive or threatening behavior.
  • Poses a safety risk to others.

 

 

  1. Smoking Policy

 

  • The hotel is a non-smoking property.
  • Smoking and vaping is forbidden inside the hotel, rooms and public areas.
  • Smoking and vaping is only allowed in the designated smoking area to the left of the main entrance.
  • Guests must not smoke near entryways to avoid disturbing others.
  • Penalties:
    • Smoking or vaping inside rooms or unauthorized areas: 500 EUR room recovery fee.
    • Smoking or vaping in guest rooms: Eviction without refund.

 

 

  1. Food and Beverage Policy

 

  • Outside food and beverages are not permitted in any public areas including the lobby, bar, restaurant, lounges, gym, or outdoor spaces.
  • The breakfast buffet must be consumed only in the restaurant.
  • Room charges are not possible, please note that should you wish to join us at the bar or the restaurant, a method of payment on spot is required.

 

 

  1. Outdoor Area – Hot Tubs and Sauna

 

  • Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.
  • The area is not monitored—use at your own risk.
  • Bathing suits must be worn at all times.

 

 

  1. Group Reservation Policy

 

  • Bookings of more than four (4) rooms are considered group reservations and are subject to specific group cancellation terms.

Room range: 5 +
Cancellation > 6 weeks prior to arrival: 50% cancellation fee.
Cancellation ≤ 4 weeks prior to arrival: 100% cancellation fee applies to the total amount.
Payment in full must be made 6 weeks before arrival date via payment link

  • Groups over 10 guests must select a group dining menu to dine together.

 

 

 

  1. Force Majeure

 

  • The hotel may invoke force majeure if road closures by local authorities prevent access for over 24 hours.
  • Weather alone (e.g. snowstorms) does not qualify unless official closures block access.
  • The hotel is not responsible for disruptions beyond its control, including:
    • Flight delays/cancellations
    • Transportation interruptions outside of Iceland
    • Airspace closures or travel restrictions

Guests remain subject to the standard cancellation policy. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

 

 

  1. Liability

 

  • The hotel is not liable for personal injury, or for loss or damage to guests’ belongings during their stay.

 

 

  1. Other Terms

 

  • The hotel reserves the right to amend these terms at any time. Changes will apply immediately to future bookings.

Please note that our opening hours will change from the 1st of November for winter.
